Focus on what you can do – not what you can’t

Day 7.
I got to go home on Friday. So, now we just drive into the hospital to get my treatments. It’s early — 7:30 in the morning.   I got my wife up at 5.
I have to say I was just talking to our amazing nurse here today. The staff at this hospital are amazing at UC Health and Children’s hospital. The level of care is just beyond anything I could ever hope for as far as caring and supportive staff. They take the time to talk to you and answer any questions that are relatable. They’re just beautiful and it’s made such a big difference to feel so supported.
I know I feel so supported by all of you, so thank you. That means everything to me. I feel supported by my wife, my mom, and my chosen family. I mean, it’s just beyond anything I could ever imagine. But to also have that kind of support in a hospital is pretty incredible. I know there are a lot of things that can’t really do right now. But one of the things that I’ve found that’s helped me is just focusing on “what can I do?” I can do what I need to do before taking all my medications. I can do that really well. With my mind and my thought processes, I can do that really well.
Just like an athlete that has an injury, everything doesn’t just stop and you just sulk and get sad and miserable. Focus on what you can do and you do those things to the best of your ability. That’s what I’m doing now. I’m focusing on what I can do and doing that to the best of my ability. I’m appreciating everything that I can do and putting all my faith in God that I’m exactly where I need to be.
But to all of you struggling with anything, focus on what you can do and do that to the best of your ability. Because we create our experiences. I could make this an absolute misery or I can get as much joy and happiness at every moment as I possibly can. And that’s my goal. So to all of you thank you so much. To my beautiful wife whose arm is getting tired. I love you all so much. Thank you for your love and support. It means everything to me and it means everything to my wife as well because she’s going through this, too.
Day 7, 21 to go to remission. The goal is 21 days then remission, at which point I could then go into my transplant, which is the big step. So that’s the goal. I love you all so much. Thank you.
